N'Gou Bagayoko was born in 1949 in Mali, and discovered the guitar at the age of 21. His interest for the instrument began with the meeting of a music professor who saw immense natural talent in N'Gou. In 1980, he made his first recording as companion, conductor and arranger of Nahawa Doumbia, the well known singer from Bougouni. In January 2001, the first recording of N'Gou Bagayoko becomes a reality for the label Frikyiwa. The musical interpretations of N'Gou Bagayoko are at the same moment unique, strange and nevertheless familiar. In it, one can hear the mixtures of various local cultures and an immense amount of empirical musical knowledge.
Nahawa Doumbia's husband, guitarist, and father of Doussou Bagayoko, N'Gou Bagayoko's accoustic blues style made of delicate rhythms is deeply rooted in the malian guitar tradition. It is at the same time inspired by the music from Bougouni village and the richness of arpeggios of the kamalen n'goni; a traditional instrument made with a calabash and eight strings.
